The annual Israeli ACT conference is an opportunity for learning, enrichment, professional introductions, and community gatherings.

The seminar will deal with the encounter between deep psychological distress and a shocking social reality. The lectures presented at the seminar are the keynote lectures from the Psychosis in a Mad World conference held in December 2024 by ISPS - the Israeli Association for the Advancement of Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis, in collaboration with the Nafarashim Institute for Psychotherapy Research and Teaching at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic College. The seminar is open to professionals, researchers, sufferers and family members.

The seminar dealt with the fascinating and complex field of mind-altering substance therapy. Over the past decade, the conversation about these substances has become a central topic in public, scientific, and clinical discourse, and new research is offering new insights into their potential for change, healing, and personal development.

The conference consists of three sessions: an opening lecture that extensively reviews these topics, followed by eleven parallel sessions that focus, each of them, on a specific aspect, a specific point of view, on these topics. The conference will conclude with a joint conversation with three residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz, each with her own story, views, and ways of coping.

The seminar will address the complex impact of childhood loss of a parent, or even the loss of both parents, on development and adjustment, especially in circumstances of traumatic loss. We will offer insights based on research, theory, and clinical observation and their implications for multi-systemic intervention. We will listen, accompanied by musical excerpts, to the personal experiences and thoughts of a survivor of such a situation. We will focus on the challenges of the foster family environment and the systems associated with it in such difficult situations today.

Schema Therapy, as a current therapeutic approach, uniquely addresses complex issues in mental health care. As such, it is in line with other innovative approaches. This year's conference will address the ways in which Schema Therapy connects with similar approaches and addresses evolving needs in the therapeutic field.

The seminar will address the overall phenomenon of human self-sabotage in a comprehensive manner, both theoretically and clinically. Two clinical cases will be presented, documented on video, which will demonstrate the therapist's work process, to dissolve any type of self-harming functioning, with the aim of accompanying the patient to a different position, at a safe distance from the suffering he causes himself.

The seminar will deal with the different meanings of collective trauma, social fractures and their manifestations in the microcosm of the group. We will deal with the uniqueness of the group's healing and healing factors in this context. The lectures will present a variety of group therapeutic approaches while discussing the meaning of integration and connection between the different perspectives. The seminar will also include a workshop part that includes a guided group experience, in which participants will be able to experience the unique qualities of group work that takes place in the shadow of social trauma.

Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) is a psychoanalytic approach to the relatively structured treatment of patients with turbulent personality disorders, including borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder. TFP is an integrative approach, from the school of Prof. Otto Kernberg, that combines psychodynamic ideas (mainly from object relations), attachment theory, neurocognitive research, principles from time-limited therapies, and is evidence-based.

In this fascinating meeting, three of the leaders in the fields of research and teaching in psychotherapy in Israel will present how concepts from the world of group analysis on the one hand, and from the world of integration in psychotherapy on the other, may help to understand interpersonal processes and streamline the group training framework.

The meeting will address several issues in the context of group guidance from an integration-oriented perspective, which emphasizes the importance of processes that occur in the group, the use of groupness to expand alternative insights, and re-energizes the role of the guide as a process facilitator.

For over four decades, the team at Or Shalom, the largest out-of-home placement organization in Israel, has been treating, accompanying, and guiding children, youth, and young adults ages 0 to 27 who were removed from their homes by welfare authorities due to situations of risk and neglect in family, home, and community programs. Years of professional experience form the basis for the book "Seeing the Light," which presents theoretical and therapeutic thinking from an emotional and ethical starting point that involves a commitment to benefit and support the development of traumatized children and their families.

At this joint seminar by the Or Shalom Organization and the Mifrasim Institute, we would like to share with you knowledge relevant to the broader therapeutic community that works with children and adults who have suffered trauma, and with people in general.

After the success of the first conference, which we held last year, we are happy and excited to invite you to participate in the annual conference for the promotion of the integration of psychotherapy, which will be held on Thursday, March 16th in the afternoon in an online format, and on Friday, March 17th, at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic Campus.

This year we chose to focus on an issue that concerns many of us, which was observed and raised in the various workshops and discussions we held during the last conference and in various activities throughout the year, and that is - how a therapist, who holds an integrative position, makes decisions in treatment.

After the success of the first conference, which we held last year, we are happy and excited to invite you to participate in the annual conference for the promotion of the integration of psychotherapy, which will be held on Thursday, March 16th in the afternoon in an online format, and on Friday, March 17th, at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic Campus.

The learning day will focus on new insights into the mind-body connection, with the immune system playing a central role in this dialogue. Since the 1960s, the brain has been considered an organ isolated from the immune system, and therefore any immune response within the brain has been considered a risk factor that must be eradicated. Professor Schwartz was the first to challenge this view. She has shown for over two decades that brain maintenance and healing depend on the immune system. Furthermore, her research has led to the insight that brain age is more influenced by immune system age than chronological age. Professor Schwartz's results have far-reaching implications for understanding coping with emotional stress, developmental brain diseases, and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's.

At the second conference this year, we will continue to tackle the challenge that mind-body and body-old age relationships pose to the therapeutic space and process with an in-depth look into the clinic.

We will begin by presenting a case by Dr. Liora Bar Tor, who will discuss the questions: What happens when an elderly patient who has begun treatment at the clinic becomes disabled during the course of treatment and cannot continue treatment at the clinic? Should we end the treatment? Should we agree and be able to continue to meet with him at home? In a nursing home? In a hospital?

Our encounter as professionals with children who have experienced traumatic events is a complex and moving encounter. We move between the desire to distance ourselves and deny the magnitude of the horror and pain, alongside an understanding of the importance of acknowledging the traumatic experience of the child and his parents for the purpose of treatment and rehabilitation of the child's adaptation and development.

In this seminar, we will present a variety of contemporary theoretical approaches that offer intervention methods for treating children, adolescents, and parents who are dealing with traumatic experiences in a range of circumstances.

Dr. Louise McCue embodies many qualities that reflect the values of the best in the global ACT and CBS community. She combines clinical and research work, promoting the Irish-British branch of which she is a part, and building bridges in the diverse global community. She stands at the forefront of teams that have produced some of the most groundbreaking and highly regarded research work on RFT from their laboratories, and in addition, she provides introductory training in ACT to novice therapists and the general public. In recent years, Louise has committed to making the RFT perspective on the 'self', a central concept in ACT, as in any psychological approach, accessible, and has written an in-depth book on this subject, a gift for clinicians and researchers alike.

As the heads of the Israeli branch of ACBS, we are excited and proud to bring Louise to us for a two-day workshop, which will be held on January 19-20, 2023 at the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Academic College, in collaboration with the 'Mifarashim Institute'.

The split between body and mind is an ongoing challenge that contemporary psychology faces. This challenge is intensified when it comes to aging and the old body. Western culture and Western psychology in general, glorifying youth and beauty, tend to exclude the old body, with its character, beauty, weariness, and physical resources, from the discourse on aging.

In the two meetings we will hold this year as part of our series "The Elderly as Subject" and which will deal with the challenges of the body in old age, we would like to invite to the center stage a meeting with a variety of aspects of the body in old age. The first meeting will deal with the theory of the body in old age, movement in old age, the flexible brain and clinical applications of these issues. The second meeting will focus on the clinic of the body in old age and within the framework of which we will invite professionals from various therapeutic fields to present the meanings and ways of working with the body in old age.

Mediation is a method of conflict resolution in which a neutral third party assists the parties to the dispute in reaching agreements between them and resolving the dispute in the best possible way. Mediation presents a worldview for managing interpersonal disputes and offers effective tools for personal conduct in relationships, for preventing and managing conflicts, and for dealing with situations of change and transition. We all, as humans, are in relationships, encounter disputes, and experience changes and transitions, hence the relevance of becoming familiar with the world of mediation for our personal empowerment as people and therapists, as well as for the strengthening and development of our patients. The series of study evenings will offer conceptualization and theoretical sources, familiarity with practical tools, while drawing on many examples from the lecturer's experience.

During the heyday of the humanistic psychotherapy movement (the 1960s), the renowned psychologist Carl Rogers and his friend and philosopher Eugene Gendlin watched with great curiosity hundreds of films of psychological treatments performed using various methods. They were concerned with the question: What makes the difference between successful and unsuccessful therapy?

The instructive answer he discovered led Gendlin to develop Focusing.

In this online meeting with Focusing, we will be introduced to a fascinating therapeutic tool: an experience that will include initial experimentation, explanations, a case study that will demonstrate the implementation of Focusing in psychotherapy, and exposure to its enormous healing potential.

The seminar will review the various meanings of the concepts of mirroring from an integrative perspective. Starting from classical psychoanalysis in its various streams (Winnicott, Kohut, and Lacan), contemporary psychoanalysis (mentalization theory), and continuing from other perspectives such as group analysis, cognitive-behavioral therapy (DBT), and humanistic approaches (such as EFT). We will examine how the changing nature of the concept reflects changes within and outside the psychoanalytic stream. We will discuss a comparison regarding the developmental role of mirroring in the various approaches, and we will also deal with the diverse manifestations of the various mirroring in clinical work. For dessert, we will conduct an experiment and invite the lecturers to demonstrate a mirroring intervention according to the approach in relation to the other lecturers.

This evening we will connect the model of circular psychodynamics developed by Paul Wechtel, a central thinker in the field of integration in psychotherapy, with the treatment of cannabis addiction. At the center of the model is the concept that the psychodynamic mental structure, patterns of connection and behavior, are in a circular and mutual influence. The person projects onto reality the contents and patterns that inhabit his inner world and thus shapes the world he experiences. These internal patterns and contents are preserved if they receive ongoing confirmation from the world that they were partners in shaping, or change if they are challenged by experiences in the world.

At the second annual conference of the Israeli ACT community, we seek to provide a rich and broad response to different lines of thought, diverse theories and applications, and theoretical transformations and developments. The conference contains a variety of workshops on various topics, and for different levels of knowledge and familiarity of the participants.

It is intended for veteran community members as well as for new interested parties who are first introduced to ACT, for those who wish to deepen their field of work and also for those who wish to expand and encounter a new topic.

As of 2016, a quarter of the adult population and 40% of young adults in Israel report using cannabis. Studies show that one in four cannabis users will suffer from cannabis addiction in their lifetime, a disorder characterized by compulsive use, dependence, and functional impairment as a result of substance use.

In recent years, significant changes have been taking place in the legal status of cannabis, in Israel and around the world: widespread use of cannabis for medical purposes, decriminalization of cannabis use for personal needs, and advancement of legislation towards the legalization of cannabis. Studies show that at the same time, there is a process of normalization of cannabis, which is perceived by the public as harmless.

DBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach developed in the 1980s by psychologist Prof. Marcia Linehan. The main elements that define this innovative and revolutionary approach are behavioral theory, mindfulness, and dialectical philosophy. The treatment offers holism and synthesis. The main dialectic is the need to create a context of validation and acceptance of the patient as he is while tirelessly trying to bring about change.

The DBT approach began as a treatment for young women suffering from borderline personality disorder and exhibiting suicidal and self-harming behavior. DBT is the treatment recommended by the American APA and the British NICE for treating this population. Over the course of more than 30 years in the United States and twenty years in Israel, the use of the treatment has expanded to different patient populations in terms of diagnosis (eating disorders, substance use, depression and anxiety, other personality disorders, complex trauma, etc.), age (adolescents, the elderly, and children), therapeutic setting (day care, open and closed wards, boarding schools, schools, out-of-home placement, etc.) and therapeutic setting (individual, parent guidance, couple, family, group). Is there room and permission for extensive and extra-therapeutic uses of elements from DBT?

Modern psychotherapy in the 20th century was characterized by the development and refinement of distinctions between different schools of thought, and the demand for loyalty to a school. It is evident that in the 21st century we have become aware of the importance of pluralism, and many believe that a therapeutic stance that connects different theoretical perspectives is essential in order to address the complexity of the human psyche and to maximize the transformative potential of therapy.

The ACT approach is a third-wave approach to CBT based largely on behavioral theory, from a contemporary perspective. In this seminar, we will attempt to understand what lies at the heart of ACT’s behaviorism. This will be done through three rounds of dialogue between ACT therapists – who hold a behaviorist perspective – and therapists from other approaches. We will strive to understand the commonalities and the uniqueness, to uncover fundamental positions and to discover what can be learned from each other’s approaches.

In this fascinating and rich evening of discussion, we will examine together issues arising from a therapeutic case (which will be presented by Mrs. Edmon-Livni) in light of ideas from the relational approach (Dr. Kleiner-Paz), an integrative approach to treating the parent-child relationship (Dr. Bamberger), and a context-aware and culturally-based systemic approach (Prof. Nadan). The panel will be moderated by Dr. Ron Nissim.

These approaches suggest that, both theoretically and clinically, the transition between individual, dyadic, couple, family, systemic, and social treatment and thinking can occur within complementary and even transgressive conceptual frameworks.

The "Human Spirit in Old Age" forum focuses on the question of what characterizes contemporary old age? Who are the old subjects of our time and what are the ways in which they strive not to be old objects? What has changed in classical and new theories that describe the psychology, sociology and philosophy of old age? This time we chose to focus on the almost unspoken issue of sexuality and intimacy as an expression of subjectivity, desire, the need for self-realization and of relationships and intimacy in old age.

Do sexuality, desire, and intimacy change in old age? Are they relevant? Why aren't they talked about? Is there a social silence on the issue of how to deal with sexuality and intimacy in the face of widowhood and bereavement? Leading women and professionals will illuminate the diverse and vital ways in which older people today create sexuality, intimacy, desire, and value in their lives.

There is no field that calls for integration between approaches, between individual and systemic treatment, between the intrapsychic and interpersonal, more than the treatment of children, adolescents and parents. The Child Adolescent and Parenting Psychotherapy track in the "Ogen - Integration-Based Psychotherapy Program" at the Mifrashim Institute offers comprehensive training in psychotherapy that represents current integrative approaches to working with children, adolescents and parents in a variety of contexts and populations. Alongside the teaching of classic therapeutic models and in-depth and comprehensive familiarity with various types of difficulties and problems in childhood and in parent-child relationships, the program includes learning innovative and integrative models and tools that represent the cutting edge of practice in the field.

At the upcoming seminar, the first in a series of meetings of the Forum for Integration-Based Psychotherapy, at the Mifrasim Institute, we will focus on the question of how therapists develop a position of integration? What is the journey that leads them towards integration? How is the concept of integration shaped? We will try to think together about the motivations, ways, and processes that lead therapists to develop a position of integration in psychotherapy.

What characterizes contemporary aging? Who are the old subjects of our time and what are the ways in which they strive not to be old objects? What has changed in classical and new theories describing the psychology, sociology, and philosophy of aging? How are the intersubjective-relational revolution and postmodernism reflected in the understanding of the spirit of the older person today? How do developments in the fields of medicine, technology, and sociology affect the psychology of aging? How do these developments reflect on the social, therapeutic, and medical fields?

Leading women and professionals will illuminate the diverse and vital ways in which older people today create passion and value in their lives. We will continue to listen to the voice of the elderly subject and get to know the human spirit in old age in a series that centers on subjectivity in old age today - echoing and exploring interpersonal, intersexual, and intergenerational relationships, freedom and dependence, and the physical challenges inherent in it.

This evening, the discussion dealt with marital pleasure and its connection to addictions. Pleasure is an exception to the pleasure dimension. That is, it is a search for and experience of pleasure that is ongoing and goes beyond the experience of pleasure. Freud described the pleasure dimension as an organizing and regulating principle of the self, in contrast to Lacan, who sees pleasure as a dimension that endangers the self. The danger to the self from pleasure is related to the self's exception to itself and harm to the object of desire.

The concepts of third and thirdness have undergone transformations and taken on diverse meanings in different psychoanalytic approaches. Sometimes the third appears as a real other beyond the dyad, sometimes thirdness is the movement , and sometimes the third is the product of a meeting of two . The seminar will explore the different meanings of the pursuit of integration as a connection between psychoanalysis and its other through the different aspects of the concepts of third and thirdness, and will focus on exploring the concept of the 'third' as relevant not only to connections in interpersonal relationships, but also to connections between different therapeutic approaches.

We would like to suggest that integration between theories and therapeutic techniques means creating a third space that enhances the flexibility, creativity, and vitality of the therapeutic encounter. A space that serves as a key to escaping impasses in therapy thanks to new insights and constant renewal in therapeutic technique, created by the encounter between different therapeutic perspectives.

One of the central issues in treating addicts is the issue of constructing the intervention plan. The plan must be broad enough to be relevant to the unique distress of the addicted patient and at the same time tight enough to allow for a therapeutic horizon aimed at behavioral change.

The accuracy of the treatment plan can be increased by addressing the addict's personality characteristics as they are expressed along the axes of "introversion versus extraversion" and "change seeking versus stability seeking." These axes form the basis of a patient's personality style and relate to both the addict's adaptive and maladaptive behaviors. Such an approach is not concerned with identifying and treating pathology, but rather with focusing on "what" and "how" it is possible to achieve change in the addict who comes to treatment.

In the shadow of the difficult events that have befallen us all in the past month, we have decided to hold a professional academic conference that will allow for a discussion on therapy and guidance under national political conflict. The conference will include two sessions, the first will deal with the way in which conflict penetrates the therapy rooms and the second session will deal with the impact of conflict on the guidance relationship. After the sessions, we will invite participants to a guided discussion group in the spirit of group analysis that will allow for talking and listening to the experiences, thoughts, feelings and narratives of therapy and guidance under conflict.

In the light of the difficult events that faced all of us in the last month, we decided to hold a professional academic conference to facilitate the discussion of treatment and guidance in the light of a national political conflict. The conference will include two panels, the first will address how conflict enters the treatment room and the second panel will address the impact of conflict on the counseling relationship. After the two meetings, we will invite the participants to a discussion group in the spirit of group analytical psychology to make room for participation and listening to experiences, thoughts, feelings and narratives for treatment and guidance in the light of the conflict.

This seminar touches on the seam between the private and the public. The role of career therapists and counselors, alongside treating the individual, in promoting a public agenda for the realization of fulfilling working lives among diverse communities and social groups. Traditional models of career-focused interventions and the world of work have emphasized the definition of the professional self as a central developmental task in the adult person's life, and as a significant need to be addressed. Although there are differences between these approaches in the conceptualization of the milestones (individual-environment fit, formation of professional identity, self-efficacy, object relations, etc.) towards achieving the desired goals, most of them ignore the great diversity of the socio-economic and cultural contexts of counselors and clients and the diverse range of needs that derive from this.

In recent years, clinical knowledge and research have been directed toward finding intervention practices that, on the one hand, will be based on psychoanalytic theories, and on the other hand, will lead to better therapeutic results in a more effective and faster manner. The CCRT approach - which deals with working with the central conflictual relationship theme, was developed by Professor Luborsky in the 1980s. The approach strives to formulate a central relational issue in each treatment, which will allow the work to focus on basic and conflictual patterns of relationships. The approach was developed in a way that also allows for empirical research of abstract concepts such as transference and unconscious attachment patterns. The approach has been extensively studied in the United States and is currently being studied in Israel as well, and findings indicate a high level of its effectiveness.

In the last decade, we have witnessed a body of primary research that confirms the effectiveness of using the principles and methods of the motivational interviewing approach for change in situations of stagnation and/or crisis in the field of career and work. The motivational interviewing approach is a client-centered therapeutic approach developed by Miller and Rolnik, and its goal is to promote change - setting goals and achieving them - by revealing the sources of the patient's internal motivation. On the learning day, we will learn about the principles and methods of the motivational interviewing approach and their unique application in career-focused psychotherapy , with the aim of helping the patient define the goals of change, consolidate his professional identity, and accompany him in actual realization in the world of work.

We have taken it upon ourselves to speak from within old age - as a present, pulsating, different subjectivity that requires appropriate mutual discourse. Through the relational perspective, we will participate in the theory, therapeutic practice, and intergenerational discourse of old age today. At the conference, we will present diverse perspectives on the term 'old age' through lecturers of various age and experience ranges, in order to deepen our understanding.

This lecture will present an introduction to the theory and practice of Regulation Focused Psychotherapy for Children (RFP-C), by the three developers of the approach from New York. RFP-C is a short-term, psychodynamic intervention for children with externalizing problems that relies on a protocol. This therapeutic approach is designed to help children and their families understand the meaning that motivates problematic behaviors and to help children and their parents promote effective emotional regulation processes. This lecture will present the theoretical principles and basic therapeutic techniques of RFP-C that are used with children who exhibit behavior problems, oppositional behavior, restlessness, and emotional regulation disorders. Brief case studies and discussion will help illustrate the principles of the approach and therapeutic techniques. In addition, the relevance of RFP-C to other treatment methods and ways of integration will be presented.

This workshop provides an introduction to the theory and practice of Regulation-Focused Psychotherapy for Children (RFP-C).

Mental health care that focuses on supporting people in a life-threatening situation requires unique skills, integration of treatment methods and activity, alongside a deep experience of intimacy and closeness with the possibility of touching the soul of patients who come to the meeting often exposed and without defenses. Treatment in these situations involves encountering a transitional state between holding on to life and approaching death, while requiring processing separation, open communication, balancing symptoms, closing circles, and finding meaning.

In the sessions, we will follow the basic principles of the intersubjective approach in psychoanalysis, present its theoretical premises, and from there, examine the clinical applications derived from them. We will also attempt to follow the various lines of development that led to the intersubjective approaches, get to know in depth the sources from which they emerged (such as Winnicott, Bion, and others), and discuss in a comprehensive and broad manner the diverse intersubjective positions themselves. In doing so, we will attempt to identify both the commonalities between the various intersubjective approaches and the differences between them, theoretically and clinically.

The Integration in Psychotherapy Forum aims to stimulate and lead discussion on various issues related to the practice of integration in psychotherapy in Israel. At the upcoming seminar, we will discuss questions that arise around topics of teaching, training, and guidance from an integrative perspective.

Among the third wave approaches in CBT, the metacognitive approach (MCT) tends to focus on processing, thinking, conceptualization, and the allocation of attentional resources. It aims to explore consciousness and intervene through therapeutic work with processes within it. Adrian Wells, the developer of the approach, is a British psychologist who originally trained as a CBT therapist.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD, ADD) is receiving more attention than ever before, and its diagnosis and treatment are being established and developed. In the first part of the evening, Dr. Kedar will review the background to the disorder and address its diagnosis, extent, and treatment. In the second part of the evening, Dr. Kedar will address the dual morbidity that exists among those suffering from attention deficit disorder, with 30% of those suffering from it tending to use psychoactive substances at the same time. Dr. Kedar will also address the phenomenon of "cognitive enhancement" prevalent among students and other populations, who use medications intended to treat attention deficit disorder, without a prescription, and are at risk of addiction. At the end of the evening, a discussion will be held with the audience and an opportunity to ask questions will be given.

Transference-focused therapy, developed by one of the central theorists in psychoanalysis – Prof. Otto Kernberg, is a model from the field of psychodynamic psychotherapy, which also incorporates non-psychoanalytic ideas and tools. The uniqueness of TFP lies in providing tools for dealing with the chaos and instability of working with patients with borderline personality disorder. During the seminar, we will emphasize the integrative nature of the approach; both in connections within the psychodynamic world (between classical theories, object relations, and ego psychology) and in connections to contemporary models in the therapeutic field. We will also address the great potential that the approach has for the mental health system in Israel as a research-based approach.

Drug addiction affects almost all spheres of life. The process of detoxification and treatment is complex and lengthy and involves functional changes, including sleep. Dreaming has significant implications for the quality of sleep and waking life, including those that can jeopardize detoxification and treatment. The current lecture will examine the subject through the Moranian concept that dreaming is a creative expression of a person's inner world, and its goal is to describe a comprehensive and inclusive description of the dreams of addicts in the various stages of recovery (abstinence, detoxification, and advanced detoxification).

The lecture will review the findings of a recent study that conducted in-depth interviews with addicts, with an emphasis on the topic of recovery.

The aim of the seminar is to provide therapists with an introduction to the theoretical rationale for understanding parent-child therapy for autism, the goals of therapy, and guiding principles for interventions that support parent-child interaction and strengthen resilience factors in the emotional development of the dyadic relationship. Special attention will be given to the challenges and insights that have emerged from remote therapeutic work, as reflected in the adjustments made due to the constraints of the coronavirus.
