Relationships, Pleasure, and Addiction

Rachel Zigel and Noam Israeli

The meeting will be held online.

On Thursday, 18.11.21, between 19:30-21:00

Registration fee: 70 NIS

The evening will deal with marital pleasure and its relationship to addictions.

Delight is an exception to the dimension of pleasure. That is, it is a search for and experience of pleasure that is ongoing and goes beyond the experience of pleasure.

Freud described the dimension of pleasure as an organizing and regulating principle of the self, in contrast to Lacan, who saw enjoyment as a dimension that endangers the self.

The danger to the self from pleasure is related to the self's deviation from itself and harm to the object of desire.

In the treatment room, couples bring pleasure through a departure from previous sexual and marital patterns - cultural and personal - and an increasing use of psychoactive substances. Is this pleasure a source of a new type of marital difficulties? Is it a way to represent the difficulty in maintaining sexual and marital desire? A change in the relationship as we knew it? In order to think about these questions, we will open the evening by characterizing the differences between pleasure and pleasure. We will try to examine the connection between pleasure and addictions by presenting case studies through the following questions: Are pleasure and addiction related to each other? If so, in what way? Are they related - together and separately - to the history of the couple? And if so, in what way? Are they related to excitement and boredom in marital life and the culture of the contemporary world? Through these questions, we will present ways of working with the tension between addiction and marital pleasure in individual and couple interventions.
