"Freud. The Outsider"

Told in four acts, the film combines animation, a reconstruction of Freud's legendary study, documentation of unspoken dreams, and rare archives of previously unreleased home movies. Through his personal letters and insights from leading psychoanalysts, it presents an intimate and thought-provoking portrait of Freud - the man, the researcher, and the outsider.

As a Jew in Vienna on the eve of Hitler's rise, Freud experienced a sense of marginality that shaped his teachings and personal life. The film explores how these experiences shaped his ideas about dreams, sexuality, anxieties, and regrets, and his influence on psychoanalysis and Jewish identity.

"Freud, the Outsider" is the 19th installment in the "Hebrews" project and will be released in mid-2025, with the support of RBB, ARTE, ORR and KAN.

About the speakers:

Prof. Shulamit Geller - Head of the Clinical Psychology Department at the Tel Aviv Academic College in Jaffa. Clinical psychologist and instructor, member of the Israeli Institute for Group Analysis and research fellow at the Herzliya Institute for Counterterrorism Policy.

Dr. Sharon Ziv Beiman - Clinical Psychologist, Faculty Member at Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic, Director of the Mifarashim Institute for Psychotherapy Research. Founding Co-Director of "Sich Group - Institute for Relational Psychotherapy", Director of the Sadot Institute for Psychological Services, Board Member of the International Association for Psychoanalysis and Relational Psychotherapy, Former Chair of the Israeli Forum for Psychoanalysis and Relational Psychotherapy, Co-Founder of the Israeli Association for Focused Psychotherapy, Private Practice with Adults and Couples.

Dr. Mor Shechori Stahl - Clinical Psychologist. Lecturer and instructor at the Mifrasim Institute for Research and Teaching of Psychotherapy at the Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic College, in the advanced studies track 'Winnicott, Bion, and the Independents in Psychoanalysis - Pioneers', the program for continuing studies in psychotherapy at Tel Aviv University, in the Department of Clinical Psychology at the Ruppin Academic Center, in the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy track at Levinsky College and in 'Schools' on behalf of the Open University. Researcher and lecturer in the fields of psychotherapy, bereavement and loss, and coping with divorce in the family. Fellow at the Center for Loss, Bereavement and Mental Resilience, University of Haifa. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy therapist in Tel Aviv and Ra'anana.

Yair Kader - Director, creator and social activist. Documentary filmmaker and social activist, specializing in literary and cultural biographies. In the past 12 years, as part of the groundbreaking project "The Hebrews", he has produced and directed 19 documentaries about Jewish writers and poets, using a unique combination of archives, animation and music. His work has won more than 30 international awards. Kader came to prominence with "The Pink Time" (2009), which documented the rise of the LGBT community in Israel. In addition to his cinematic work, Kader was a pioneer of the LGBT movement in Israel - among other things, he founded the newspaper "The Pink Time", edited the anthology "Beyond Sexuality", and established the "Gay Community Heritage Project".
