Sensitive handling of culture and immigration -
A variety of principles and aspects

A conversation with Prof. Galia Tzabar and Orna Solomon

Led by Liat Horn - Sderot Resilience Center and Prof. Sharon Ziv Beiman - Mifarashim Institute

This evening we will address the challenges that arise in therapeutic work with patients from societies with unique cultural characteristics, with an emphasis on Ethiopians. We will examine dilemmas from the field, touch on culturally-appropriate practices, and formulate principles for working with trauma in a culturally sensitive and contributing manner. From the particular, we will also expand to questions relevant to society in general and the entire therapeutic field. We will examine how ancient wisdom can serve traumatized patients.

In order to promote a discussion of these questions, we will host:

Prof. Galia Tzabar - President of the Tel Aviv-Yafo Academic College and migration researcher.

Orna Solomon - Social worker, couple and family therapist, parenting coordinator and expert in culturally sensitive treatment, with a focus on Ethiopian immigrants. Director of the "New Path" program in Ashdod and coordinator of the cultural sensitivity area, I work every day at the intersection between the individual, the family and cultural identity.
