Workshop No. 3

Act, autism, and what is in between: Act as a therapeutic method with patients on the autistic spectrum

Dr. David Cohen

In the workshop, we will present ways to apply the ACT method to patients on the autistic spectrum and understand how it may be the most effective therapeutic tool for working with these patients.

Autism is a neurological syndrome characterized by rigidity in thinking, difficulties in interpersonal communication, anxiety, and difficulties in regulation. Professional literature indicates that ACT therapy helps patients on the continuum and their families.

  • Develop more flexible thinking and behavioral patterns to enable coping with changes in daily life

  • Define concrete and realistic values and life goals in order to exploit personal potential.

  • Change ineffective communication and behavior patterns

  • Deal more effectively with anxiety and frustration

In the workshop we will present ways to apply the ACT method to patients on the autistic spectrum and understand how it may be the most effective therapeutic tool for working with these patients. In the workshop we will also learn ways to help the patient on the autistic spectrum and his family. Define values, understand and accept his disabilities and the differences between him and 'neurotypical' people, flex his thinking and more effectively control his choices and behavior.
