The book reveals the clinic, theories, and professional development process of medical psychologists, as well as the moral dilemmas that preoccupy them. The book places great emphasis on the training process, which is essential in therapeutic professions built on a hierarchy based on experience and knowledge, and therefore also concerns therapists outside of medical psychology.
Working with people who come to the clinic through their bodies has led to the development of body-centered concepts and practices: such as bodyness and the ultimate albic body, as well as to the distinctions required in states of illness and physical injury such as that between grief, mourning, depression, and demoralization.
The book contains articles describing the professional development of the therapist and instructor and its significance in relation to working in a multicultural medical system. And in relation to cultivating the character of instructors and therapists, which is evident in the formal training stages (practicum, training internship), and in their personal development stages (marriage, pregnancy, etc.).
Additional articles describe the wide range of areas in which medical psychology deals, such as trauma in physical contexts, injury as distinct from illness, addictions, fertility treatments from a medical psychology perspective, or work on patients' encounters with death.
