Lacanian psychoanalysis is now one of the most important psychoanalytic approaches in the world, but it still often seems complex and difficult to grasp. Shlomit Yadlin Gadot and Uri Hadar offer an unusually clear account of Lacan's main ideas in this new introduction.

The authors convey Lacan's complex and abstract concepts in accessible language, illustrating them with contemporary and familiar examples. They do this alongside direct quotations from Lacanian texts, which allow readers to become familiar with Lacan's language. According to Yadlin-Gadot and Hadar, Lacanian ideas can enrich the thinking and work of analysts from many schools of thought without requiring the adoption of Lacanian technique or methodology.

In this conversation, Aner Guvrin and Sharon Ziv-Beiman will discuss with the authors the Lacanian subject and the ways in which it is present in every contemporary issue and every psychoanalytic encounter. In what ways does Lacanian theory reveal how the individual is enslaved both to the other and to the liberating forces inherent in him? How are definitions of pathology and health replaced and focused on modes of desire and relationships with others, and how is each person's basic fantasy related to love, sexuality, and consumerism?

No prior familiarity with Lacan's work is necessary to participate in this event.

Dr. Shlomit Yadlin-Gadot is a psychoanalyst at the Tel Aviv Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis and head of the Psychotherapy Program at Tel Aviv University. Her research focuses on Freud, Lacan, and truth, combining perspectives from psychoanalysis, philosophy, and cultural studies.

Uri Hadar is a professor of psychology at Tel Aviv University and the Ruppin Academic Center. His interests include psychoanalysis, nonverbal communication, and the brain representation of natural language. His research and publications on psychoanalysis combine Lacanian and referential ideas.
