The professional literature on grief focuses extensively on identification, diagnosis, and treatment, offering evidence-based models for reducing distress, processing loss, and strengthening adjustment. However, the issue of ending care often receives less attention, despite its clinical importance—especially in grief therapy, where separation is at the heart of the experience.

  • When is it appropriate to end treatment for loss and grief?

  • How can we work with the experience of separation - without reliving or avoiding further loss?

  • What does a "good ending" look like in grief treatment? One that allows for continuity and not just separation?

This evening, we will consider the end of treatment as a transitional space for reviewing the path taken, strengthening the ability to move, and creating continuity and integration of grief and mourning into the fabric of life. We ask that you think of the end not as an endpoint, but as a transition – to the possibility of living alongside the loss, while maintaining a continuous inner connection with the deceased and a renewed turn to a life that has meaning and connection.
